Owned by the Barreau family for generations, the estate is known for its small-scale, artisanal approach to winemaking. Château Certan de May is located in Pomerol, one of Bordeaux’s most prestigious right-bank appellations. The region’s maritime-influenced climate provides mild winters and warm summers, creating an ideal growing environment for Merlot, which dominates the vineyards. Pomerol is renowned for its small estates and limited production of world-class wines.
The estate’s vineyards are situated on Pomerol’s prized plateau, where the terroir features gravel, clay, and iron-rich subsoils known locally as crasse de fer.
