Château Certan de May, established in the 17th century, is one of the historic estates of Pomerol. Owned by the Barreau family for generations, the estate is known for its small-scale, artisanal approach to winemaking. Combining centuries of tradition with careful attention to detail, Château Certan de May consistently produces wines celebrated for their balance, elegance, and aging potential.
Château Certan de May is located in Pomerol, one of Bordeaux’s most prestigious right-bank appellations. The region’s maritime-influenced climate provides mild winters and warm summers, creating an ideal growing environment for Merlot, which dominates the vineyards. Pomerol is renowned for its small estates and limited production of world-class wines.
The estate’s vineyards are situated on Pomerol’s prized plateau, where the terroir features gravel, clay, and iron-rich subsoils known locally as crasse de fer. These elements contribute to the wines’ distinctive structure, complexity, and velvety texture. The combination of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon further enhances the depth and harmony of the wines.
