Sadi Malot is a fifth-generation Champagne grower based in Villers-Marmery, with roots tracing back to the late 19th century. Today, the domaine is led by Aline Malot and her husband, Quentin, who have transitioned the estate toward sustainable farming and a more terroir-focused style. Their approach blends family heritage with contemporary sensibilities, favoring single-parcel expressions, longer lees aging, and minimal dosage to highlight the precision of their Premier Cru vineyards.
Villers-Marmery lies on the Montagne de Reims, an area traditionally dominated by Pinot Noir. However, this particular village is distinct for its Chardonnay plantings, making it a rare enclave for the variety in the region. The microclimate is cooler and wind-exposed, creating ideal conditions for slow ripening and high acidity. As part of the Montagne’s eastern slope, the village enjoys good sun exposure while maintaining freshness, allowing Sadi Malot to produce Champagne with both tension and depth.
The domaine’s vineyards are planted predominantly on pure chalk soils, particularly Campanian chalk, which provides excellent water regulation and contributes to the linearity and mineral drive of the wines. Elevations average around 250 meters, enhancing diurnal range and aromatic development. The precision of this terroir is accentuated through low-intervention practices, including spontaneous fermentation and low sulfur use. The resulting Champagnes are crystalline, expressive, and deeply anchored in the distinct soils and climate of Villers-Marmery.
