Based in Ambonnay, the estate has built a reputation for producing complex, age-worthy Champagnes with a meticulous focus on vineyard expression. Egly-Ouriet is particularly celebrated for its commitment to low-yield farming, extended lees aging, and minimal dosage, emphasizing purity and character.
Located in the Montagne de Reims, Egly-Ouriet’s home base is Ambonnay, one of Champagne’s most prestigious Grand Cru villages. This sub-region is known for its dominance of Pinot Noir, thriving in its temperate climate of cool nights and sunny days. The Montagne de Reims is also noted for its forested plateau, which creates a unique microclimate for the vineyards below.
The terroir of Egly-Ouriet is defined by the chalk and limestone soils of Ambonnay, which impart structure, minerality, and a signature salinity to the wines. The vineyards include old vines, some over 70 years in age, contributing depth and concentration. With holdings in other Grand Cru sites like Verzenay and Bouzy, the estate captures nuanced expressions of Champagne’s finest terroirs.
