There is more ripeness to the Clos de la Barre monopole, with an exotic fruit character ranging from grapefruit to passionfruit and hints of coconut. Despite the opulent aromas, however, there is a lively, fresh acidity that draws the wine to a lovely lingering finish. The grapes come from a 2.1-hectare clos behind the domaine in the village, whose oldest vines date to 1950. This wine is a significant step above the already high standard set by the blended village-level Meursault.

The 2021 Meursault Clos de la Barre is lovely, mingling aromas of pear, blanched almonds, crisp stone fruit and white flowers in an inviting bouquet, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny, vibrant palate with good cut and grip. This has the substance to develop well in bottle.

Resilience Yields Exceptional Meursault

The 2021 growing season at Domaine des Comtes Lafon presented challenges with spring frost and summer rains, requiring meticulous vineyard management. Despite these obstacles, the estate's team skillfully navigated the conditions, resulting in a wine of surprising concentration and purity.
