Domaine de la Bongran, managed by Jean and Gautier Thévenet, has been a family estate for generations in the Mâconnais region. Jean Thévenet took over in 1972, and his son Gautier joined in 1996, becoming responsible for the cellar in 2000. The domaine is renowned for its commitment to traditional methods and the production of distinctive Viré-Clessé wines.
Located in the hamlet of Quintaine, just north of Clessé, the estate spans 15 hectares of organically farmed vineyards planted on white marl soils. These soils, combined with the region's microclimate, contribute to the unique character of their Chardonnay wines.
The terroir's white marl composition imparts a distinctive minerality and complexity to the wines. The combination of soil and climate conditions allows for the development of wines with depth, richness, and a balance of acidity, reflecting the true essence of the Viré-Clessé appellation.
