Château Talbot Vertical (2019-2021)

Sale price $255.00 | In Stock Ships from our French cellar (Delivery in 4-10 days) | Drink or Cellar

This vertical highlights three excellent Saint-Julien vintages, capturing Talbot’s structure with 2019’s rich black fruit and firm tannins, 2020’s dense dark berries and cedar spice, and 2021’s bright red fruit and elegant acidity.

Offering exceptional balance, the 2019 Château Talbot Impériale is brimming with cassis, mocha, and cedar, with hints of dried herbs. The palate is luxurious and textured, with fine tannins that provide structure for its layered finish. A commanding wine in an impériale format, perfect for collectors.

Château Talbot 2020 highlights the structured yet approachable style of Saint-Julien. Aromas of blackcurrant, plum, and tobacco lead to a medium-bodied palate with firm tannins and a finish marked by classic Médoc minerality.

The 2021 Château Talbot demonstrates the estate's expertise in navigating challenging vintages. This elegant Saint-Julien offers aromas of red fruits, blackcurrants, and subtle floral notes, with hints of spice and cedar. On the palate, it shows remarkable freshness and precision, with fine-grained tannins and a persistent finish, suggesting an aging potential of 15-20 years.

The long and polished 2020 Talbot leads with great fragrance followed by black fruit notes and even a hint of tar. Overall, it is less muscular, but still concentrated, and more refined than the densely paced 2018, conveying a classic St-Julien temperament. Its suaveness makes it surprisingly approachable even now. The energy and refinement of the 2020, like the 2019, make one wonder whether Laporte consciously turned down the volume after the massive 2018.

Exuberant, with generous plum sauce, licorice root, blackberry compote and apple wood notes vying for attention, as graphite and cast iron accents drive along underneath. Reveals a little flash of exotic toast that snazzes up the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2030 through 2040. 18,000 cases made, 1,400 cases imported.

Spicy, structured and dense, this is a complex, smoky and powerful wine. With polished fruit and structure, it comes from an increasingly impressive estate. Drink the wine from 2027.

Cranberry, red berry fruit and green peppercorns - something a little spicy on the nose. Charming and effortless. Clean and crunchy on the palate, crisp and high toned with some green apple, just ripe raspberry and strawberry fruit with juicy, bright but balanced acidity and a gently creamy, chalky texture all the way through. Nice personality, pretty but nuanced and well built. Not a showstopper, certainly on the lighter more delicate side, but they've done a good job here. Tangy, but cheerful and characterful. A nice effort.

The 2021 Château Talbot is based on 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot. It has lots to love and brings more density and depth than most in the vintage. Ripe red and black fruits, tobacco leaf, spicy oak, and a touch of chocolaty earth all emerge on the nose, and it's medium-bodied, with a rock-solid mid-palate, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It's impressive and well worth seeking out and buying, as you can drink bottle today or in 15+ years with no issues.

Offers a solid core of crushed plum and black currant fruit, underscored by savory and tobacco accents and a light sanguine edge. Possesses just enough flesh to stave off the vintage's grainy side as a late iron note echoes. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2025 through 2035. 22,000 cases made, 1,900 cases imported.
