Château Talbot

Estate

Château Talbot is a prestigious Fourth Growth estate situated in the Saint-Julien appellation of Bordeaux. The château, named after Connétable Talbot, an English warrior defeated at the battle of Castillon in 1453, is one of the largest estates in the Médoc. It encompasses 110 hectares of vineyards, primarily planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and small amounts of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc.

1974

Drainage Defies Rain

Challenging rains through harvest tested Saint-Julien, though Talbot's gravel soils provided crucial drainage during the difficult conditions. The fourth growth's strategic position near the Gironde offered some protection from the season's erratic weather patterns. Early picking proved essential, while rigorous selection preserved the estate's classic character despite vintage pressures.

2020

Saint-Julien Heat Peaks Early

The warm growing season in Saint-Julien demanded precise harvest timing at Talbot's 110-hectare estate. The château's century-old vines and deep gravel soils helped maintain equilibrium through summer drought conditions. The wine displays the vintage's ripe profile while preserving Saint-Julien's classic graphite and cassis character.

2021

Talbot's Triumph Over Adversity

The 2021 growing season at Château Talbot was marked by spring frosts, a cool and wet summer, and increased disease pressure. Despite these challenges, the estate's meticulous vineyard management and rigorous selection process ensured only the best fruit made it into the grand vin. The well-drained gravelly soils of Saint-Julien played a crucial role in maintaining quality, contributing to the wine's characteristic elegance and structure.
