Domaine Armand Rousseau, founded in the early 20th century, is one of Burgundy's most revered wine estates. Located in Gevrey-Chambertin, it is now run by Eric Rousseau, the third generation of the family. The domaine manages about 14 hectares of vineyards, including significant holdings in prestigious grand Cru sites such as Chambertin, Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and Clos Saint-Jacques. Renowned for its traditional winemaking approach and unwavering commitment to quality, Rousseau produces some of Burgundy's most sought-after and age-worthy Pinot Noirs.
Gevrey-Chambertin, home to Domaine Armand Rousseau, is a key village in the Côte de Nuits, the northern half of Burgundy's famous Côte d'Or. The Côte de Nuits is world-renowned for its exceptional red wines, predominantly made from Pinot Noir. This region stretches from Marsannay in the north to just south of Nuits-Saint-Georges, encompassing legendary appellations like Vosne-Romanée and Chambolle-Musigny. Gevrey-Chambertin itself boasts nine grand Cru vineyards, more than any other commune in the Côte d'Or.
The terroir of Gevrey-Chambertin, where Rousseau's vineyards are located, is characterized by limestone-rich soils often mixed with varying amounts of clay and rocky debris. The vineyards typically occupy east-facing slopes, providing optimal sun exposure while protecting the vines from harsh western winds.
