Roc des Anges was founded in 2001 by Marjorie Gallet, who relocated from the Rhône Valley to Roussillon in search of old vines and complex soils. At just 23, she established the domaine in Montner, gradually expanding holdings and converting all vineyards to biodynamic farming. Alongside her husband, Stéphane Gallet, she has developed a reputation for producing refined, site-driven wines from indigenous varieties like Grenache Gris, Carignan, and Macabeu, with a focus on purity and restrained power.
The estate is located in the Agly Valley in the northern Roussillon, a rugged and wind-swept area between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean. This part of the region is more elevated and less arid than the plains to the south, offering a cooler microclimate that preserves acidity and balance. The valley sits at a convergence of cultural influences—Catalan, French, and Occitan—which is mirrored in the diversity of grape varieties and traditional viticultural methods still practiced today.
Roc des Anges' vineyards are situated on a mosaic of schist, gneiss, and granite soils at altitudes between 200 and 400 meters. These nutrient-poor, well-drained terrains naturally limit yields and enhance aromatic precision. The combination of high elevation, persistent winds, and old vines—some over 100 years in age—creates wines marked by salinity, tension, and textural finesse. Fermentations are spontaneous and intervention is minimal, allowing the nuanced expression of Roussillon’s complex geological makeup to define each cuvée.
