Jean-Max Roger is a family-owned estate located in the Loire Valley, with winemaking traditions dating back to the 17th century. Based in the village of Bué, the estate transitioned to independent production in the 1970s under Jean-Max Roger’s leadership. Today, the next generation continues to uphold the family’s reputation for crafting elegant wines that express the unique character of Sancerre and its surrounding appellations.
The estate is located in the Sancerre appellation, part of the eastern Loire Valley. This region is renowned for its cool continental climate, which provides ideal conditions for Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. The rolling hills and proximity to the Loire River create microclimates that enhance grape ripening and preserve acidity, resulting in vibrant and aromatic wines.
The terroir of Jean-Max Roger’s vineyards is defined by three distinct soil types: flint, which imparts minerality and freshness; limestone, which adds structure and elegance; and clay, which contributes depth and richness. These soils, combined with careful vineyard management and sustainable practices, allow the estate to produce wines that reflect the diversity and complexity of Sancerre’s terroir.
