Originally from Burgundy, Maxime Magnon established his estate in Villeneuve-les-Corbières in 2002. Drawing inspiration from his experiences with renowned winemakers such as Jean Foillard, Magnon has developed a reputation for producing wines that combine the finesse of Burgundy with the rustic charm of the Corbières. His commitment to organic farming and low-intervention winemaking has positioned him as a leading figure in the natural wine movement .
The Corbières appellation, located in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, is known for its rugged terrain, diverse soils, and Mediterranean climate. The combination of schist and limestone soils, along with the influence of the nearby Pyrenees, creates a unique environment for grape cultivation. The region's warm days and cool nights contribute to the development of grapes with concentrated flavors and balanced acidity.
Magnon's 15.5 hectares of vineyards are planted with a mix of red and white grape varieties, including Carignan, Grenache, Syrah, Grenache Blanc, and Grenache Gris. The vines, some over 100 years old, are farmed organically, with the use of cover crops and grazing animals to promote soil health. Harvesting is done by hand, and vinification involves whole-cluster fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The wines are aged in concrete tanks and old barrels, resulting in expressions that are vibrant, aromatic, and reflective of their terroir .
