Les Vignes Oubliées is a collaborative project initiated by Jean-Baptiste Granier, with support from Olivier Jullien of Mas Jullien. The estate focuses on reviving old, neglected vineyards around the village of Saint-Privat in the Terrasses du Larzac. Granier's passion for preserving these historic vines has led to the production of wines that honor the region's viticultural past while embracing modern, sustainable practices .
The Terrasses du Larzac, located in the northern part of the Languedoc, is characterized by its elevated vineyards, diverse soils, and significant diurnal temperature variations. These conditions contribute to the development of grapes with balanced acidity and complex flavor profiles. The region's terroir, comprising schist, limestone, and clay soils, imparts distinctive mineral notes to the wines.
Les Vignes Oubliées cultivates old vines, some over a century in age, primarily planted with Grenache, Syrah, and Carignan. The vineyards are managed organically, with a focus on minimal intervention to allow the natural expression of the terroir. Harvesting is done by hand, and vinification employs indigenous yeasts, with aging in neutral barrels to preserve the purity of the fruit. The resulting wines are noted for their elegance, freshness, and depth, reflecting the unique characteristics of the Terrasses du Larzac .
