Founded in 2017 by Seiichi Saito, Domaine Petit-Roy is a micro-négoce based in Chorey-les-Beaune. Saito, a Japanese expatriate with Chinese heritage, honed his winemaking skills at the Beaune wine school and through apprenticeships at esteemed domaines such as Mugnier, Leflaive, and Rousseau. His diverse experiences inform a winemaking philosophy that emphasizes precision and respect for terroir.
The domaine sources grapes from various appellations, including the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, focusing on small parcels that showcase the diversity of Burgundy. Saito employs organic and biodynamic practices, believing that such methods best reveal the nuances of each vineyard site.
The varied terroirs, ranging from limestone-rich soils to marl and clay, provide a complex foundation for the wines. The region's continental climate, marked by significant diurnal temperature shifts, contributes to the development of grapes with balanced acidity and aromatic complexity. Through attentive vineyard management and minimal intervention in the cellar, Domaine Petit-Roy crafts wines that authentically express their origins.
