Vibrant, earthy clay minerality with eucalyptus notes, as well as pot-pourri, dried flowers and bright dark fruit that’s soaked with spice. The tannins here are condensed and loaded with lifted acidity. Full body and abundant tension. Classy wine with plenty of elegance and length. Very classic. Drinkable now, but best from 2028.

This is a beautiful wine, much more developed and evolved than the 2010, as one might expect, with perfumed notes of camphor, cedar, charcoal, herbs, and black and red fruits. A blend of 70% of Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine has very complex aromatics, medium to full body, outstanding ripeness, a spicy, perfumed character, and light to moderate tannin. It can benefit from 2-4 years of cellaring and should keep for two decades.

Vieux Château Certan is a highly esteemed estate located in the heart of the Pomerol appellation on Bordeaux's Right Bank. The château, dating back to the 16th century, is known for producing some of the most elegant and sought-after wines in the region. With approximately 14 hectares of vineyards, VCC cultivates primarily Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Pomerol is a small but highly esteemed wine appellation on the right bank of the Bordeaux region in southwestern France. It covers approximately 800 hectares and is situated north of Saint-Émilion. Pomerol is unique among major Bordeaux appellations as it has no official classification system, yet it produces some of the world's most sought-after and expensive wines.

Terroir

The terroir of Vieux Château Certan is exceptional, characterized by a unique mix of clay and gravel soils with deposits of blue clay, similar to that found at Petrus. This diverse soil composition, combined with the estate's slightly elevated position on the Pomerol plateau, provides excellent drainage and exposure for the vines. The terroir allows for the production of wines that beautifully balance power and finesse, with the potential for remarkable complexity and longevity.

The long, dry September and October allowed for unhurried picking decisions, resulting in wines of classical proportions.
