Founded in 1999 by Rémy Pédréno, Roc d'Anglade is situated in the village of Langlade in the Gard department. Pédréno, a former sound engineer, transitioned into winemaking, bringing a meticulous approach to viticulture. He chose to forgo the local AOC designation to allow greater freedom in grape selection and winemaking techniques, focusing instead on producing wines that reflect the unique character of his vineyards. The estate spans approximately 10 hectares, with vines aged between 5 to 60 years, cultivated organically to preserve the integrity of the fruit.
Langlade, located west of Nîmes, boasts a rich viticultural history dating back to the 10th century. The region's reputation for quality wines was recognized in the 18th century when Louis XIV granted the village the royal coat of arms, a symbol that Roc d'Anglade proudly displays on its labels. The area's climate, influenced by both Mediterranean and continental factors, provides a balance of warmth and freshness, ideal for grape cultivation.
The estate's vineyards are planted on a mosaic of soils, including clays, sands, silts, and marls. These diverse soil types contribute to the complexity and density of the wines. The north-facing orientation of the plots helps maintain freshness and balance in the grapes. Pédréno employs natural, organic farming practices, ensuring that the wines authentically express their terroir.
