Domaine Sérol, located in the Côte Roannaise appellation, has been under the stewardship of Stéphane Sérol since 1996. Together with his wife, Carine, they have revitalized the estate, focusing on high-altitude vineyards and biodynamic farming practices. The Sérol family has a long history in the region, with viticulture roots dating back to at least the 18th century. Today, the estate is recognized for its commitment to sustainability and the production of expressive Gamay wines.
The Côte Roannaise, situated in the eastern foothills of the Massif Central, is a lesser-known appellation in the Loire Valley. The region's continental climate, with warm summers and cool winters, is ideal for grape cultivation. The area's elevation, ranging from 400 to 500 meters, contributes to the wines' freshness and acidity. The region is primarily planted with Gamay Saint Romain, a local clone known for producing wines with vibrant fruit and minerality.
Domaine Sérol's vineyards are characterized by granite soils, which impart a distinctive minerality to the wines. The estate's commitment to biodynamic farming enhances the expression of terroir, with careful attention to soil health and biodiversity. Vinification is carried out with minimal intervention, using indigenous yeasts and aging in a combination of stainless steel and oak vessels. The resulting wines are celebrated for their purity, energy, and reflection of the unique terroir of the Côte Roannaise.
