The Courbis family's winemaking history dates back to the 16th century, with the estate located at the confluence of the Rhône and Isère rivers. Brothers Laurent and Dominique Courbis took over the domaine in the early 1990s, bringing a modern approach to traditional practices. They have established themselves as leading producers in Saint-Joseph and Cornas, known for their intense, fruit-forward wines.
Situated on the right bank of the Rhône, the estate's vineyards span 33 hectares across Cornas and Saint-Joseph. The region's continental climate, with its hot summers and cold winters, provides optimal conditions for Syrah cultivation. The steep slopes and diverse soil compositions contribute to the distinctive characteristics of each vineyard.
The La Sabarotte vineyard in Cornas, considered one of the appellation's best sites, features extremely old, low-yielding vines planted in 1947. The soil is a thin granite-limestone over protruding rocks, providing excellent drainage and contributing to the wine's structure and minerality. The combination of soil composition, vine age, and meticulous vineyard management results in wines that are both powerful and expressive of their terroir.
