Domaine Pierre & Louis Trapet is the Alsatian project of the Trapet family, better known for their historic estate in Gevrey-Chambertin. This biodynamic domaine was established when Jean-Louis Trapet’s wife, Andrée, inherited vineyards in Alsace, and their son Pierre took an active role alongside his father. With deep roots in both Burgundy and Alsace, the Trapet family brings a Burgundian sensibility to their Alsatian holdings, emphasizing purity, precision, and a strong connection to place.
The domaine is based in Riquewihr, in the heart of the Haut-Rhin, one of Alsace’s most celebrated winegrowing areas. The region benefits from the sheltering effect of the Vosges Mountains, which create a dry, sunny climate ideal for viticulture. The vineyards include parcels in prestigious Grand Cru sites such as Schoenenbourg and Sporen, each offering distinct geological features and microclimates that shape the varietal expression of Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Gewurztraminer.
The soils range from marl-limestone to clay and sandstone, giving the wines layered minerality and structure. Farmed entirely biodynamically, the vines thrive in living soils that enhance both aromatic intensity and textural depth. The interplay between the region’s varied geology, long growing season, and biodynamic farming allows the domaine to craft wines that are both crystalline and expressive, with a strong sense of Alsatian identity.
