François Lumpp founded his eponymous estate in 1991 in Givry, located in the Côte Chalonnaise. Alongside his wife Isabelle, he meticulously planted and nurtured approximately 9 hectares of vineyards, focusing on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Their children, Pierre and Anne-Cécile, have since joined the family business, continuing the tradition of producing wines that reflect the unique terroir of Givry.
Givry is situated in the Côte Chalonnaise, a subregion of Burgundy known for its rolling hills and diverse soils. The area benefits from a continental climate with warm summers and cool winters, providing ideal conditions for grape cultivation. Givry's vineyards are primarily located on mid- to upper-slope positions, offering excellent drainage and sun exposure.
The soils in Givry are predominantly clay-limestone, contributing to the structure and minerality of the wines. François Lumpp's vineyards, such as Clos Jus and A Vigne Rouge, are known for their rich, iron-oxide-laden red soils, which impart depth and complexity to the wines. The combination of soil composition, vine age, and careful vineyard management results in wines that are both expressive and reflective of their specific vineyard sites.
