Established in 1966 by Adolphe Ostertag, Domaine Ostertag is located in Epfig, Alsace. André Ostertag, who took over in 1980 after studying in Burgundy, introduced innovative practices such as reducing yields and incorporating techniques from other regions. In 1997, he transitioned the estate to biodynamic viticulture, emphasizing a holistic approach to vineyard management. His philosophy blends artistic expression with winemaking, treating each wine as a unique creation.
Alsace, situated in northeastern France, is renowned for its aromatic white wines. The region's diverse soils and microclimates contribute to the complexity of its wines. Alsace's cultural blend of French and German influences is reflected in its winemaking traditions.
Domaine Ostertag's vineyards span 14 hectares across 75 parcels, including the esteemed Muenchberg Grand Cru. The estate cultivates a variety of grapes, focusing on expressing the unique characteristics of each terroir. André's approach combines traditional methods with modern insights, resulting in wines that are both expressive and reflective of their origins.
