Joan d'Anguera is a family-run estate located in Darmós, within Spain's Montsant appellation. The d'Anguera family's winemaking heritage dates back to 1820, with the current generation, brothers Joan and Josep, taking the helm in the early 2000s. They transitioned the estate to biodynamic farming, focusing on indigenous grape varieties and minimal intervention in the cellar.
Montsant, situated in Catalonia, is characterized by its rugged terrain and Mediterranean climate. The region's diverse soils and elevations contribute to the complexity of its wines, with Garnacha and Cariñena being the predominant grape varieties.
Joan d'Anguera's vineyards span 30 hectares, planted on clay and calcareous soils at altitudes between 200 and 300 meters. The estate employs natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts and ages wines in used barrels, resulting in expressions that are both authentic and reflective of their terroir.
