Founded in 1996 by Jérôme Bressy at the age of 23, Domaine Gourt de Mautens is located in Rasteau, Southern Rhône. Jérôme's father had converted the family vineyards to organic farming in 1989, and Jérôme continued this commitment, later adopting biodynamic practices. In 2008, he left the Rasteau AOC to have the freedom to use a wider variety of grape varieties, focusing on indigenous and rare grapes.
Rasteau's Mediterranean climate, with its hot, dry summers and the mistral wind, provides ideal conditions for grape cultivation. The region's diverse soils and elevations contribute to the complexity and balance of the wines produced here.
The estate's 13 hectares of vineyards are planted with a variety of indigenous grape varieties, including Grenache, Carignan, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Counoise, Cinsault, Vaccarèse, and Terret Noir. The soils are a mix of clay, limestone, and marl, contributing to the wines' structure and minerality. Jérôme's commitment to biodynamic farming and minimal intervention winemaking results in wines that are pure, expressive, and reflective of their terroir.
