Lionel Gauby is a prominent figure in French winemaking, representing the third generation of his family to oversee Domaine Gauby. Established in the early 1980s in the village of Calce, the estate underwent a significant transformation under Lionel’s leadership. His forward-thinking approach brought a shift toward organic and biodynamic viticulture, blending traditional methods with a focus on ecological balance.
Located in the foothills of the Pyrenees in Roussillon, the region surrounding Domaine Gauby is characterized by its Mediterranean climate. The area benefits from warm, sunny days tempered by the cooling Tramontane winds, which preserve the freshness of the vines. The proximity to the mountains and the sea creates a dynamic environment ideal for growing diverse grape varieties.
The terroir of Domaine Gauby is defined by its complex soils, which include limestone, schist, and clay. These varied compositions contribute to the depth and mineral character of the wines.
