Isabel Ferrando established her eponymous estate in 2004 by acquiring 3.9 hectares of vines in the southern part of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. A former banker, Ferrando transitioned into winemaking with a vision to create wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region. Her approach combines traditional methods with a focus on expressing the individuality of each vineyard site.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape, located in the southern Rhône Valley, is known for its full-bodied red wines. The region's diverse terroirs and Mediterranean climate contribute to the complexity and depth of its wines. Ferrando's vineyards are situated in prime locations within the appellation, allowing her to craft wines that are both expressive and reflective of their specific vineyard sites.
The soils in Ferrando's vineyards are predominantly composed of galets roulés, which aid in heat retention and promote even ripening of the grapes. This, combined with the region's climate, results in wines that are both powerful and nuanced.
