Château Tertre Roteboeuf, founded in the mid-20th century, gained prominence under the stewardship of François Mitjavile, who transformed it into one of Saint-Émilion’s most distinctive estates. Known for its artisanal approach, the château produces limited quantities of wine that emphasize depth, elegance, and individuality. Mitjavile’s philosophy of long hang times and gentle winemaking has solidified the estate’s reputation for crafting unique, age-worthy Bordeaux.
The estate is located in Saint-Émilion, a prestigious appellation on Bordeaux’s Right Bank. This historic region is renowned for its Merlot-dominant blends and centuries-old vineyards. Saint-Émilion’s temperate climate, influenced by the Dordogne River, provides a balance of warm summers and cool autumns, fostering ideal conditions for slow and even grape ripening.
Château Tertre Roteboeuf’s vineyards are planted on a south-facing amphitheater of limestone and clay soils, which enhance drainage and retain heat.
