Château Lafleur
Château Lafleur is a small but highly esteemed wine estate located in the Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux, France. Owned by the Guinaudeau family since 1872, it has remained relatively unchanged in size, covering just 4.5 hectares. Despite its modest dimensions, Lafleur is renowned for producing some of the most sought-after and expensive wines in the world. The estate is known for its unique blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, often in equal proportions, which contributes to the wine's exceptional complexity and aging potential.
Pomerol is a small but highly esteemed wine appellation on the right bank of the Bordeaux region in southwestern France. It covers approximately 800 hectares and is situated north of Saint-Émilion. Pomerol is unique among major Bordeaux appellations as it has no official classification system, yet it produces some of the world's most sought-after and expensive wines.
The terroir of Château Lafleur is a key factor in the exceptional quality of its wines. The vineyard is situated on a gravel outcrop, with soils composed of gravel, clay, and sand. This particular combination, along with excellent drainage, creates an ideal environment for both Merlot and Cabernet Franc to thrive. The estate's position on a slight slope ensures optimal sun exposure and air circulation. These elements, combined with meticulous vineyard management and low yields, result in wines of remarkable concentration, power, and finesse that truly express the unique character of this small Pomerol estate.
