Domaine de Saint Préfert, established in 1920 by Fernand Serre, is one of the historic estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Revitalized by Isabel Ferrando in 2003, the domaine has become renowned for producing wines that seamlessly marry tradition with modernity. Ferrando’s dedication to biodynamic practices and minimal intervention winemaking has elevated Saint Préfert to international acclaim.
Located in the southern Rhône Valley, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is one of France’s most prestigious appellations. The region enjoys a Mediterranean climate with abundant sunshine, the mistral wind, and minimal rainfall. These conditions are ideal for cultivating Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, which thrive in the warmth and produce rich, full-bodied wines.
The vineyards of Domaine de Saint Préfert are situated on the region’s iconic galets roulés—large, heat-retaining stones that cover the soil. Beneath the stones, a mix of clay, sand, and limestone provides excellent drainage and contributes to the wines’ depth and minerality. This unique terroir allows the estate to craft wines that are both powerful and refined, expressing the true essence of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
