Opening in the glass with notes of dark berries, baking chocolate, forest floor and truffle, the 2019 Corton Grand Cru Clos Rognet is medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with a bright core of fruit, powdery structuring tannins and a tightly wound, vibrant profile. This is a touch more introverted than the Perrières out of the gates, but this year the difference in degree of reserve isn't as flagrant as it sometimes is.

The Estate

Domaine Méo-Camuzet, founded in the early 20th century, is one of Burgundy's most prestigious estates. Located in Vosne-Romanée, the domaine manages about 14 hectares of vineyards, including holdings in several grand cru sites such as Richebourg, Clos de Vougeot, and Échezeaux. Under the leadership of Jean-Nicolas Méo since the 1980s, the estate has risen to prominence, known for producing wines of exceptional quality and finesse. Méo-Camuzet's history is notable for its connection to Henri Jayer, a legendary Burgundian winemaker who served as a consultant and mentor to the domaine.

Grand Cru Shows Muscle

The vineyard's prime upper-slope position provided crucial air flow during intense summer heat, while iron-rich soils maintained steady ripening. Early morning harvesting preserved crucial acidity in this warm vintage. The wine shows Rognet's characteristic ferrous power with concentrated dark cherry depth and grand cru intensity.

Iron-Rich Soils Show Power

Cool autumn winds swept the upper slopes of Corton, allowing gradual ripening despite the warm growing season. Iron-rich clay soils provided essential water regulation through summer heat stress. Pure red fruits and spice notes reflect the site's unique exposure, carrying additional concentration from the vintage warmth.
