A near-perfect 2016 vintage in Burgundy delivered wines of precision and depth. Aux Boudots offers aromas of dark cherries, black tea, and forest floor. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, with firm tannins and a finish that highlights the vineyard's mineral character.

The 2016 Corton-Perrières Grand Cru felt a little rustic on the nose and, at least at this precise moment in barrel, felt bereft of the same cohesion as some of Méo-Camuzet’s other crus. There is a light sea influence here—just a distant tang of kelp, something estuarine. The palate is medium-bodied with fine and quite solid tannin. There is impressive density, the 10% stem addition imparting freshness on the composed and harmonious finish. Hopefully the aromatics will up their game and match the quality on the palate.

The Estate

Domaine Méo-Camuzet, founded in the early 20th century, is one of Burgundy's most prestigious estates. Located in Vosne-Romanée, the domaine manages about 14 hectares of vineyards, including holdings in several grand cru sites such as Richebourg, Clos de Vougeot, and Échezeaux. Under the leadership of Jean-Nicolas Méo since the 1980s, the estate has risen to prominence, known for producing wines of exceptional quality and finesse. Méo-Camuzet's history is notable for its connection to Henri Jayer, a legendary Burgundian winemaker who served as a consultant and mentor to the domaine.

Warm August Saves Harvest

April frost severely reduced yields across Aux Boudots, while subsequent hail tested the surviving vines through early summer. The vineyard's northern placement and mature root systems helped weather the season's challenges, producing concentrated Pinot Noir with red cherry precision, sous bois complexity, and the site's characteristic iron-tinged mineral core.

North Slope Guards Freshness

Spring frost severely reduced yields across the northern-lying parcels, while cool temperatures extended the growing cycle. The vineyard's position bordering Vosne-Romanée and iron-rich soils helped preserve balance through challenging conditions, producing focused Pinot Noir with red fruit precision, mineral depth, and the site's signature silken texture.
