Maison Pierre Overnoy, located in the village of Pupillin in the Jura region, has been a pioneer in natural winemaking since the 1980s. Pierre Overnoy, the estate's founder, was among the first in France to produce wines without the addition of sulfur, inspired by the teachings of Jules Chauvet. In 2001, Overnoy passed the reins to Emmanuel Houillon, who continues to uphold the estate's commitment to organic and biodynamic practices. The estate is renowned for its expressive wines that authentically reflect their terroir.
The Jura region, nestled between Burgundy and Switzerland, is known for its unique grape varieties and traditional winemaking methods. Pupillin, in particular, is celebrated for its red wines made from the Poulsard grape. The region's cool climate and diverse soils contribute to the production of wines with distinctive character and aging potential.
Maison Pierre Overnoy's vineyards are planted on marl, clay, and limestone soils, which impart complexity and structure to the wines. The estate cultivates Chardonnay, Savagnin, Poulsard, and Trousseau, employing biodynamic farming methods to enhance soil vitality and vine health. In the cellar, wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in old barrels, often for extended periods, allowing them to develop depth and nuance.
