Klein Constantia, established in 1685 by Simon van der Stel, is one of South Africa's most historic wine estates. Renowned for producing the legendary "Vin de Constance," a sweet wine favored by European nobility in the 18th and 19th centuries, the estate experienced a renaissance in the 1980s under the Jooste family's ownership. Today, it continues to honor its rich heritage while embracing modern winemaking practices.
Situated in the Constantia Valley near Cape Town, the estate benefits from a unique microclimate influenced by the Atlantic Ocean. The cool, maritime conditions are ideal for cultivating white grape varieties, contributing to the freshness and elegance of the wines.
The vineyards are planted on decomposed granite soils, which provide excellent drainage and impart a distinct minerality to the wines. Sustainable farming practices are employed to preserve the natural environment and ensure the longevity of the vineyards.
