Founded in 1850 in Gevrey-Chambertin, Domaine Drouhin-Laroze is one of the oldest family-run domaines in the Côte de Nuits. Managed today by Nicolas and Caroline Drouhin, the estate has grown into a grand cru powerhouse, holding coveted parcels in Musigny, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze, Bonnes-Mares, and Clos de Vougeot. The family’s focus is on crafting wines that articulate each terroir with precision, depth, and restraint.
The domaine’s vineyards are situated in some of the most hallowed terroirs of the Côte de Nuits. In Gevrey-Chambertin, their holdings include mid- and upper-slope parcels with thin topsoil, high limestone content, and excellent natural drainage. These sites yield wines with firm tannins and earthy mineral depth. Their Musigny and Clos de Vougeot holdings lie over more complex strata of marl and limestone, producing wines of aromatic lift and structural refinement.
The varied topography of these grands crus plays a critical role: Clos de Bèze’s rocky slopes offer tension and ageability, while Bonnes-Mares sits on deeper, red clay-laced soils that lend volume and power. The domaine’s ability to farm and vinify each cru independently allows each site’s geological signature—whether gravel, fossil-rich limestone, or clay-marl—to speak clearly in the glass.
