Château Gazin, established in the 18th century, is located in the Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux. The estate has a rich history, with its vineyards situated on land that once belonged to the Knights of St. John, who operated a hospital for pilgrims traveling to Santiago de Compostela. This historical connection is reflected in the estate's name and emblem.
Situated on the Pomerol plateau, Château Gazin's vineyards benefit from the region's temperate maritime climate, influenced by the nearby Dordogne and Isle rivers. This climate, combined with the plateau's elevation, provides ideal conditions for the cultivation of Merlot, the dominant grape variety in Pomerol, known for producing rich and velvety wines.
The estate's 26-hectare vineyard is planted on a mix of gravel and clay soils, with a subsoil rich in iron oxide, known locally as "crasse de fer." This unique soil composition imparts a distinctive minerality and complexity to the wines, contributing to their depth and aging potential.
