The vineyards are predominantly planted on Kimmeridgian limestone soils, similar to those found in Chablis, providing excellent drainage and imparting a distinct mineral quality to the wines. The estate cultivates a variety of grapes, including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, and rare, heirloom varieties such as Arbanne, Petit Meslier, and Blanc Vrai. Their commitment to organic and sustainable viticulture ensures that the unique terroir is expressed in each bottle, producing Champagnes with finesse and complexity.
Maison Drappier, established in 1808 by François Drappier, is a family-owned Champagne house located in Urville, France. The estate's historical roots trace back to the 12th century when Saint Bernard founded the Clairvaux Abbey, around which the Drappier family later established their vineyards. Over the generations, the family has maintained a commitment to traditional winemaking while embracing sustainable practices.
Situated in the Côte des Bar region of the Aube, southern Champagne, the Drappier vineyards benefit from a unique microclimate influenced by the surrounding forests and the nearby Seine River. This area is particularly favorable for Pinot Noir, which constitutes a significant portion of their plantings. The region's distinct climatic conditions contribute to the development of Champagnes with depth and character.
