This has a lot of body and balance for a 2011 with shaved-chocolate, berry and cherry character. Full to medium body with fine tannins and a lively finish. Harmonious for the second wine of Angelus.

Taut, slightly austere style, with a roasted cedar frame to notes of loam, mulled blackberry and bittersweet cocoa. Score Range: 87-90

The Estate

Promoted to the summit of Saint-Emilion alongside renowned wines Ausone and Cheval Blanc, Carillon de l'Angélus is the second wine of Château Angélus. This wine is crafted with the same rigor and attention as the grand vin. The property takes its name from a small plot of very old vineyard, in the heart of which the winemakers could hear the ringing of the Angelus simultaneously from the three churches of the region: the chapel of Mazerat, the church of Saint Martin de Mazerat, and that of Saint Emilion. Here, in the vineyard as well as in the cellar, the respect for traditional practices is combined with the constant progress of techniques to bring each harvest, each vintage to their highest degree of perfection.

Triumph Over Nature

The weather patterns of this vintage were quite unusual and forced the estate’s teams to adapt continuously, while never letting up with grass cover crop management, tilling and early leaf removal and thinning out. These wines start with pure ripe fruit aromas. After a precise attack they display fine, silky, tight-knit tannins and a lovely mouthfilling feel. Very elegant finish.
