Tenuta dell'Ornellaia was founded in 1981 by Marchese Lodovico Antinori in the Bolgheri region of Tuscany. With a vision to create world-class wines, the estate quickly gained recognition for its commitment to excellence and innovation. In 2005, the Frescobaldi family acquired full ownership, continuing the legacy of producing wines that reflect the unique character of the Bolgheri terroir.
Located along the Tuscan coast, Bolgheri benefits from a Mediterranean climate with ample sunshine and cooling sea breezes. This environment is ideal for cultivating Bordeaux varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. The region's reputation for producing "Super Tuscan" wines has been bolstered by Ornellaia's contributions to the area's winemaking prestige.
The estate's vineyards are planted on a mix of alluvial, volcanic, and marine sedimentary soils, providing a diverse foundation for vine growth.
