Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé

Estate

Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé stands out even among Burgundy's historic estates, tracing its roots back over 550 years to 1450 when Jean Moisson cultivated vines in Chambolle. Now in its 20th generation of family ownership, the domain is led by Claire de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette, granddaughters of the late Comte Georges de Vogüé. Widely regarded as the greatest estate in Chambolle-Musigny, it owns 7.25 hectares of the grand cru Musigny vineyard, representing 70% of this revered site. With additional holdings in Bonnes-Mares and Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses, the domaine produces some of Burgundy's most sought-after and age-worthy Pinot Noirs, maintaining its position as a benchmark producer through a steadfast commitment to quality and tradition.

Iron Soils Shape Depth

Vogüé's ancient Musigny vines weathered violent August hailstorms that struck the heart of Chambolle-Musigny. The grand cru's iron-rich limestone soils and eastern exposure helped maintain equilibrium through September's uneven ripening period. The domaine's century-old vines delivered profound red fruit purity and spice notes, while cold autumn nights preserved the intense mineral core that defines this historic grand cru.

Ancient Roots Prevail

Cool conditions and late season rains challenged Burgundy, yet the domaine's ancient vines in Musigny showed remarkable resilience. The site's perfect exposition and limestone soils provided crucial drainage during the difficult harvest period. Severe selection and precise timing preserved the grand cru's ethereal character despite vintage pressures.

2014

Moderate Season Builds Depth

The moderate growing season allowed gradual flavor development in this historic grand cru, while cooling September winds preserved aromatic precision. The site's limestone-rich soils and perfect exposition provided ideal ripening conditions for the domaine's century-old vines. Careful harvest timing captured Musigny's signature ethereal perfume and mineral depth.

Musigny Meets Summer Sun

Summer heat brought early ripeness to the grand cru, while the site's limestone soils preserved crucial freshness through drought conditions. The domaine's ancient vines, some dating to the early 1900s, showed remarkable resilience during intense summer stress. The vintage's natural concentration aligns perfectly with Musigny's profound depth and complexity.
