Second Wind of Château Lynch-Bages

Château Lynch-Bages Echo

Estate

Château Lynch-Bages is a prominent wine estate located in the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux, France. Classified as a Fifth Growth (Cinquième Cru) in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, it consistently performs at a level that many consider to be well above its official rank. The estate has been owned by the Cazes family since 1939 and is known for producing powerful, full-bodied wines primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller proportions of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Lynch-Bages has gained a strong international following and is often referred to as one of the "Super Seconds" of Bordeaux.

2017

Maritime Air Drives Balance

Echo's parcels on Pauillac's gravel plateau largely escaped April frost damage, while maritime influences moderated summer temperatures. The second wine benefited from the same precise harvest timing as the grand vin, albeit from younger vines. The wine displays Lynch-Bages's characteristic graphite minerality with fresh dark fruits marking this challenging year.

2020

Second Wine Shows Depth

Echo benefited from Lynch-Bages' new state-of-the-art gravity-flow cellar during 2020's intense summer heat. The estate's gravel-rich soils provided essential drainage and water regulation through the season's drought conditions. The wine captures Pauillac's classic cassis and cedar notes, while refined extraction methods reveal remarkable accessibility in Lynch-Bages' second label.
